Learn the basics about 3D Printing. Suddenly this exciting new hobby is affordable! 3D print models, functional parts, artistic décor and more from patterns you download or design yourself using free software. Learn what tools and materials you will need to begin your 3D printing journey. If you already know your way around a computer, then you just need a 3D printer to get started. Get some hands on time with actual 3d printers! Bring a laptop (optional) and try out the software too!
This course is an Introduction to 3D Printing with FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) printers. FDM is a popular type of 3D printing technology that uses a melted plastic filament to build up a 3D object layer by layer. In this class, you will learn the basics of 3D printing and how to operate an FDM printer. You will learn how to design 3D models using free and open-source software such as Tinkercad and Blender. You will also learn about the different types of plastic filament and their properties, how to prepare your 3D models for printing, and how to troubleshoot common issues that may arise during the printing process.
Through hands-on exercises, you will gain experience with slicing software, leveling the build plate, and optimizing print settings for quality and speed. By the end of the course, you will have a solid foundation in 3D printing with FDM printers and be able to create your own 3D printed objects.
