Photo Opps: More Behind the Scenes

Photo Workshop
Prerequisite: None

You loved the original Behind the Scenes Photowalk, now join us for new picture taking opportunities combined with a few old favorites. Join professional photographer Jay Pierstorff and Desert Museum Curator of Mammalogy and Ornithology, Shawnee Riplog-Peterson, for two new days of exciting photo ops. This workshop is for photography enthusiasts of all skill levels, no matter what kind of camera you have. Lots of chances to learn, take pictures, ask questions and experience the Desert Museum from the inside out!
Join Instructor Jay Pierstorff as you photograph a rattlesnake, Gila monster, other animals in a studio setting. (Animals may vary by availability) Learn about studio gear and techniques for making studio photos.

Get your cameras ready for  two mornings of non-stop action with animals that are alert and active. You'll also visit many “Behind the Scenes” areas of the Museum that are not open to the public.  


Bring your camera, extra memory cards, charged batteries, desert walking shoes, wide brimmed hat, sunscreen and water. You will walk a mile or more each day. Learn about animal photography coupled with an up-close experience of how things work behind the scenes. Animals may vary and are subject to availability.

One Day to Your Own Website: with Take-Home Lessons

In this lecture style class, you will learn how to set up your own basic website, for your personal projects, your business or your community events. Just the basics, and nothing else to get your website going. If you have computer experience you can create your own website! Learn about domain names, web hosting, creating and using graphics and more. Take home a USB flash drive to review the lessons on your home computer.

Intro To Stock Photography: Make $ While You Sleep

Introduction to Adobe Lightroom 6/CC with Take Home Video Lessons

Want to add Adobe Lightroom’s powerful cataloging and photo editing tools to your skillset? Join Pro Photographer/Educator Jay Pierstorff for this one day, lecture style class on Adobe Lightroom. We will start from the basics and learn Lightroom’s most useful photo editing tools. You don’t need to bring a laptop. Just sit back and watch as Jay demonstrates how to get the most from this program on the big screen. Take notes, ask questions, and learn what makes Lightroom one of the most powerful photographers tools!

Students receive a USB flash drive with video lessons to view on your home computer. Simply watch the lesson and then do the exercise demonstrated in the video. Once you are comfortable with it, move to the next lesson. Easy to do and easy to repeat any time as a refresher. In addition, you get a printed lesson plan and image files to practice with.

This class is perfect for people who are new to Lightroom, but already use a computer either Windows or Mac. This class covers Adobe Lightroom Versions 6/CC. (Older program versions may have different tool layouts and may be missing features/capabilities of the newer ones) You can also download free trial versions of Photoshop at Adobe.com

Behind the Scenes Photowalk at the Desert Museum

A professional photographer and staff animal keeper join forces to create two days of exciting picture taking opportunities. This class is for photography enthusiasts of all skill levels no matter what kind of camera you have. Lots of opportunities to learn, take pictures, ask questions and experience the Desert Museum from the inside out!

 

  • Day 1: Instructor Jay Pierstorff will show you techniques for photographing hummingbirds, raptors, and other animals in zoos, museums as well as in the wild. Then take your camera out on the Desert Museum grounds to practice what you have learned!

  • Day 2: Shawnee Riplog-Peterson, ASDM Curator of Mammalogy and Ornithology joins the class. Get your cameras ready for a morning of non-stop action with animals that are alert and active. You’ll also visit many “behind the scenes” areas of the Desert Museum that are not open to the general public.

Join us for a unique experience that has students returning again and again! Learn about animal photography coupled with an up-close experience of how things work behind the scenes. Holiday Behind the Scenes Photowalk

A Photographer and Museum Curator team up to give you a memorable holiday experience! Did you get a new camera, lens, or camera phone for the Holidays? Do you have friends or family visiting this season? What a perfect holiday experience for a photo enthusiast, animal lover and fan of the Desert Museum! This class is for of all skill levels, no matter what camera you own! 

 

Join us for this very special Holiday edition of the Art Institute’s Behind the Scenes Photowalk. Only three walks will be held. In these early morning classes, you will have the opportunity to photograph many of our Museum animals as they react to enrichment activities! You will also get to see and tour “Behind the Scenes” areas of the Museum that the public never gets to see! 

 

Come ready to take pictures! No classroom time for this special event! We will maximize the experience by taking photos and visiting locations right away! Note: we may walk a mile or more during this class! Bring your camera, extra memory cards, charged batteries, desert walking shoes, wide brimmed hat, sunscreen and water! Creating a Website: Start to Finish!

Photographers and artists need websites! Websites can show off your art, help you communicate with your fans, find clients and even sell your goods! Getting a website built can often be expensive but Jay Pierstorff is here to help! In this class, you will build your own website from start to finish without learning to program or writing a single line of code.

 

Bring your laptop computer and get started. Update your site easily and quickly. Creating new sites and making changes  is easy once you learn the skills.

 

Subjects covered: Domain names, hosting, photographing, creating, sourcing and adding images, email, mailing lists, eCommerce, search engine optimization, photographing your art, blogging, avoiding the most common mistakes and much more. At the end of this class, you will have your own personal website up and running. Failure is not an option! A portable computer (laptop) and basic computer skills are required.
